U.S. launches military attack on Venezuela, captures its president Maduro

Donald Trump claimed that the United States has "captured" Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and flown them out of Venezuela after large-scale U.S. strikes.
Earlier, the Venezuelan government has declared a state of national emergency and rejected what it terms as "imperialist attack" with a call to action.
Cuba and Colombia have raised alarm over the US attacks, demanding urgent response from the international community.
At least seven explosions rang out and low-flying aircraft swept through Venezuelan capital Caracas and other areas in the early hours of Saturday, sending people from various neighbourhoods rushing into the streets.
Plumes of smoke rose from a hangar of a military base. There was telecommunications breakdown in another military installation with air raid sirens sounding across the capital city.
Local media also reported explosions at a military base in Venezuela's second largest city, Maracaibo, and at an airport in Miranda state.
U.S. commercial flights were banned in Venezuelan airspace by the Federal Aviation Administration over "ongoing military activity" before the blasts.
Venezuela has accused the U.S. military aggression against its civilian and military installations and called on people to take to the streets.
U.S. President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post the strikes were successfully carried out "in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement," adding that Maduro had been captured and was being removed from the country.
Sources say Maduro was caught by elite special forces troops.
The move follows the Pentagon's military buildup in the waters off South America over the last few months, as Washington has long accused the Venezuelan president of heading an international drug trafficking organisation, an allegation that Maduro denies.
In a video broadcast, Venezuelan defence minister Vladimir Padrino said the country is compiling information about the casualties in the early morning attacks and will resist "with all the strength of its libertarian history the presence of these foreign troops."
