North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended a New Year's celebration in Pyongyang Wednesday, the country's state media has reported.
North Korea's official state media reported Kim's attendance at the event at May Day stadium, which was attended by up to 150,000 people.
North Korean television coverage showed Kim Jong Un's wife, Ri Sol Ju, attending the event which is unusual as she has not been seen in public for months.
It also showed Kim's daughter sitting in between Kim and his wife, and giving her father a kiss just after midnight.
Kim gave a speech which referred to North Korean soldiers helping Russia in the conflict in Ukraine. But he did not mention other international issues.
North Korea is building up for a landmark meeting of its ruling party called the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, but there has not been any announcement to the outside world about when this will take place.
