Hong Kong's public transport systems have made several adjustments to facilitate residents during New Year's Eve, including Shenzhen Bay Port remaining operational overnight and Lo Wu Port extending its services to 2 a.m. Mainland families of all sizes flowed into Hong Kong via high speed rail at West Kowloon Station throughout the day. This as many are choosing to head down south to celebrate owing to the lack of government-organised New Year countdown celebrations in mainland cities. This visitor from Chengdu said many of her friends found Hong Kong offers a much more festive atmosphere for New Year's eve, while this tourist from Fujian said she will stay overnight in the city hoping to enjoy the crowded streets filled with New Year's cheer. She noted that despite the lack of fireworks displays this year, the experience would be an enjoyable one. To facilitate the surge in cross-border visitors, the Lo Wu Port will extend its services to 2 a.m. Adjustments have also been made by various public transport services. The MTR's final train travelling to Lo Wu Station on the East Rail Line will depart from Admiralty at 12:56 a.m., while the final train travelling to Admiralty Station will depart from Lo Wu at 2:30 a.m. Some residents shared their plans to go on day trips to the mainland and returning to Hong Kong before the year ends. This man said he will be enjoying tea and karaoke with his friends up north before coming back to the city to attend the countdown celebrations. In a similar fashion to its Lo Wu counterpart, the Shenzhen Bay Port will extend its cross-border services on New Year's Eve and remain operational overnight. The number of cross-border buses will also be increased to facilitate travellers. The vast majority of local trains will remain operational throughout the night, with services increasing in frequency starting at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, 11 special bus routes will offer New Year's services in the early hours of the day, while more than 20 regular bus routes will extend their operating hours.
