Indonesia celebrates its 80th anniversary of independence with festivities nationwide.
This year's Indonesian Independence Day ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace, presided by President Prabowo Subianto in what was billed as the largest Independence Day celebration.
The flag-raising ceremony also featured a formation with the number 80.
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to the Indonesian leader, saying that China attaches great importance to relations with Indonesia.
Different from last year, the Indonesian government chose to host the grand national celebration in Jakarta this year instead of the new capital, Nusantara.
Singapore's media analyses note that the move reflects Indonesian authorities' realisation that the new capital is not ready to hold major events -- and Prabowo no longer needs to show deference to his predecessor Joko Widodo who championed the new capital project.
