The No. 1 Standby Signal is in effect but will be cancelled at 8:20 this evening.

The Hong Kong Observatory says that under the combined influence of the ridge of high pressure over southeastern China and the tropical depression, strong winds will occasionally blow offshore and on high ground tonight and early tomorrow.

The outer rain band of the system will continue to bring squally showers and thunderstorms to Hong Kong. In the past few hours, the tropical depression has been moving steadily west-northwestwards, while maintaining a distance of more than 600 kilometres from Hong Kong.

It is expected to pass over the southwestern coast of Hainan Island tonight and move further away from Hong Kong.
