Mong Kok flat fire leaves 3 dead and 1 injured

Three people from the same family, including a six-year-old boy, were killed in a fire at a residential unit in Mongkok late last night.
The Fire Services Department said the tragedy may have been caused by the light fixtures in the flat.
A blaze broke out in a third-floor flat at Kin Wong Mansion on Sai Yee Street at around 11 Thursday night, when three males and a woman were inside the unit.
The three males were found unconscious and were later pronounced dead in Kwong Wah Hospital.
Firemen performed CPR on an 80-year-old man who was later put on a stretcher.
Another 53-year-old man passed out in a bathroom in the flat.
A boy who was six years old, was also certified dead after resuscitation failed.
However, the 75-year-old grandmother of the little boy who was calling for help near the flat window, was conscious and sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Two cats were found dead in the unit.
48 residents evacuated the building.
This man recalled he first noticed smoke in the staircase, and saw white heavy smoke outside the building.
While this child said the burning smell was strong and the situation was more serious in the lower floors.
A resident of the building opposite said the smoke spewed into her home.
She said she couldn't hear the fire alarm. She added the smoke was so strong that she was not able to escape with her children and pets.
Sources say the three deceased victims belong to the same family.
Firefighters arrived at the fire scene four mintues after receiving the call.
The flat was not a subdivided unit.
The Fire Services Department said the four victims were found in different locations in the flat.
Authorities carried out inspections at the scene this morning.
Primary investigations found that the cause of the fire may be due to the lighting fixtures, and ruled out the possibility of a short circuit in an air-conditioner or a fan.
