Over the first half of this year, the Estate Agents Authority received 128 complaints, marking an increase of over 60 percent year-on-year.
According to the EAA, the surge in complaints was mainly related to illegal advertisements. The relevant complaints rose from ten in the same period last year to 49 in the first half of this year.
Many of those advertisements provided incorrect information, such as property photos, selling prices or floor area.
During inspections and spot checks in the first half of the year, the EAA found a total of 54 non-compliance cases, representing a similar number as the same period last year.
The EAA adds it is expected that by the end of the year, after the completion of the legislation of the Basic Housing Units, the relevant guidelines will be enhanced with public education and publicity to be strengthened.
