A gunman stalked through a Park Avenue skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, which houses Blackstone and NFL headquarters, during rush hour on Monday evening and opened fire, killing three civilians and an off-duty New York City police officer.
Emergency crews were called to the office building around 6:30 p.m. after reports of an active shooter.
The 27-year-old assailant was identified as Shane Tamura from Las Vegas. He died after shooting himself in the chest, but his motive still remains unclear.
Authorities found a vehicle with Nevada plates registered to Tamura at the scene, with a rifle case and ammunition inside, according to media reports.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a briefing that the only survivor of the shooting was in critical but stable condition, and that the suspect had a "documented mental health history."
