A meeting on the Registration of Same-Sex Partnerships Bill was convened at Legislative Council today. Most lawmakers say they are against the bill.
In response to a court order on establishing an official framework to recognise same-sex partnerships, a committee was set up at Legco to examine the Registration of Same-Sex Partnerships Bill.
During the meeting on Wednesday, the New People's Party showed support for the bill but opposed same-sex marriages.
The party's leader, Regina Ip, said the rule of law should be respected and that talent can be attracted to the city if a framework is formed.
However, a majority of the parties said the government should use other means to handle the issue, with some saying the bill's passage would mean that authorities recognising same-sex marriages.
