Hong Kong's land, sea and air traffic are all affected by the incoming tropical storm.

The Airport Authority expected no passenger flights to depart between the early hours and noon on Sunday.

This as MTR services will mostly remain normal throughout typhoon 8 signal.

The Hong Kong International Airport's departure hall was busy Saturday afternoon, with most flights relatively unaffected by the impending arrival of Wipha.

But the Airport Authority says all flights will either be delayed or cancelled between 6 a.m. and noon on Sunday owing to the tropical storm edging ever closer to the city.

The authority urged passengers to contact their airlines to inquire about the latest information on their flights before travelling to the airport.

Director of Airport Operations Wing Yeung said Sunday's flights may gradually resume if weather conditions improve by the afternoon.

He added that owing to the large number of passengers affected by the latest measure, the special flight arrangements are set to last until Monday.

Cathay Pacific earlier announced that all inbound and outbound flights between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday will either be delayed or cancelled.

The city's flagship carrier emphasised it is already arranging replacement flights for passengers and will notify them via text or email.

Other airlines such as HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines cancelled 41 and 19 flights respectively.

Besides flights, the Airport Authority noted that land traffic to and from the airport will be impacted once the Gale or Storm Signal No.8 comes into force, including bus services, which will be suspended.

The MTR will suspend its bus services three hours after the typhoon signal number 8 comes into effect

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will implement traffic control measures between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. and may decide to close off the bridge in accordance with weather conditions at the time.

Regarding maritime traffic, TurboJET has already suspended operations for routes travelling between Hong Kong and Zhuhai as well as Macau and Shekou.

And the Hospital Authority has already prepared contingency plans to ensure public health services remain unaffected.
