The government and the MTR Corporation have confirmed the construction of the combined Northern Link main line and spur line projects.

The spur line will connect San Tin Station of the Northern Link to the new Huanggang Port Area. The railway company aims to open the Northern Link and the spur line simultaneously in 2034.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau and the MTR Corporation have signed the Phase 1 project agreement.

The main line project of the Northern Link comprises Kwu Tung Station and Kam Sheung Road Station which connects the East Rail Line and Tuen Ma Line respectively.

There will be three intermediate stations in San Tin, Ngau Tam Mei and Au Tau. They come with an estimated cost of 31.4 billion dollars.

The spur line, meanwhile, connects the interchange San Tin Station to the new Huanggang Port in Shenzhen via Chau Tau and the Loop stations.

Construction works on this section and the Northern Link depot in Ngau Tam Mei will be addressed in the second part of the project agreement.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau says, in view of its cross-boundary elements, the project will make use of the mainland's capacity, while adopting mainland standards, practices and resources to enhance efficiency.
