TikTok is reportedly building a new version of its app for U.S. users ahead of a planned sale to a consortium of investors.

This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump said he will start talking to China on Monday or Tuesday about a possible deal.

Tech news publication The Information reported that the new app is set to be launched on September 5th.

Users will have to download it to be able to continue using the service.

The existing version will work until March 2026, although the timeline could change.

Trump said the United States "pretty much" has a deal on the sale of the short-video platform, noting any deal requires Chinese government approval.

A plan has been in the works earlier this year to spin off TikTok's U.S. operations into a new company majority-owned and operated by American investors.

That was put on hold after Beijing objected over tariff terms.

Last month, Trump extended TikTok's ban-or-sale deadline for a third time to September 17th, with an announcement that he had identified a buyer for the app.
