The Shandong aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships have concluded their five-day visit to the city.
Many residents made their way to Victoria Harbour this morning to bid farewell to the PLA Navy vessels.
The Chinese-made Shandong aircraft carrier began its journey away from Hong Kong waters at around 10:30 a.m., escorted by the Yan'an guided-missile destroyer.
The two vessels headed to the East Lamma Channel via the Western Fairway before reaching the city's southern waters.
At the Cyberport Waterfront Park, some residents brought along cameras to capture the final moments of the departing warships.
At the Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base, the SAR government held a farewell ceremony for the visiting vessels.
Speaking about the last few days, Rear admiral Wang Zesen noted how the military realised the power of unity and Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan, meanwhile, thanked the nation for its care and support for Hong Kong and paid his respects to the tireless efforts of the People's Liberation Army.
The Yuncheng guided-missile frigate and Zhangjiang guided-missile destroyer subsequently made their way to Victoria Harbour to bid farewell to onlookers.
Scores of residents could be seen trying to catch a final glimpse of the vessels at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and the East Coast Park Precinct in Causeway Bay.
One man said he felt proud to see PLA Navy warships pass through the city's iconic Victoria Harbour, giving him a sense of patriotic fervour, while another was awed by the technological advances achieved by the nation's military.
The two vessels sailed past Lei Yue Mun and Fat Tong Mun before departing the city.
