Typhoon Danas made landfall in Taiwan late Sunday, and exited to sea early this morning. The storm has left two people dead and 300 others injured on the island.
Danas knocked out power for more than 580,000 households. Ambulances and trucks were no match for the powerful gusts.
In Tainan, huge roadside advertising signs were blown over. Danas blew past the city of Chiayi late Sunday night and became the first storm to land there in 67 years.
It was reported that one person was killed when their vehicle was struck by a falling tree, while another died after his respirator malfunctioned because of the power cut.
The weakened storm now heads west and is expected to reach the mainland on Tuesday.
