New details of the Gaza ceasefire proposal have emerged as Israel sent a negotiating team to Qatar for more talks.

This as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads to the White House to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in the hope of sealing a ceasefire deal for Gaza.

Netanyahu is making his third trip to the U.S. capital since Donald Trump returned as president.

Feeling confident after the recent 12-day war with Iran, Netanyahu praised Trump as the kind of friend Israel never before had in the White House.

He told reporters he hopes to advance a 60-day ceasefire deal for Gaza, though a permanent end to the war must come with the elimination of Palestinian group Hamas as an entity.

Hamas had earlier said it had responded to the U.S.-backed proposal in a "positive spirit" but is unlikely to agree to any conditions that call for its disbandment.

Netanyahu and Trump claimed victory over Iran after their military forces attacked Iranian nuclear sites.

Trump, who has made no secret of his wish to earn a Nobel Peace Prize, says a deal for Gaza in which hostages will be released may be days away.

"I think there's a good chance we have a deal with Hamas during the week, during the coming week," said Trump. "pertaining to quite a few of the hostages. You know, we've gotten a lot of the hostages out, but pertaining to the remaining hostages, quite a few of them will be coming out. We think we'll have that done this week."

The Associated Press says the deal calls for a 60-day ceasefire during which Hamas hands over 10 living and 18 dead hostages; Israeli forces would withdraw to a buffer zone along Gaza's borders with Israel and Egypt, and more aid would be brought in.

The aid would be distributed by United Nations agencies and the Palestinian Red Crescent, with no mention of the U.S.-backed GHF. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed while seeking assistance at GHF distribution sites since late May.

Meanwhile, Israel's military launched airstrikes early on Monday targeting ports held by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The Houthis responded by firing missiles at Israel that may have breached air defences. It comes after a suspected Houthi attack on a ship in the Red Sea.
