Invest Hong Kong says it has assisted more than 1,300 overseas and mainland companies in setting up or expanding their operations in Hong Kong since January 2023.
InvestHK, the government's investment promotion agency, says it has attracted at least 1,300 companies from all over the world, bringing in foreign direct investment of over 160 billion dollars and creating more than 19,000 jobs for the city over the past two and a half years.
Nearly half of the new firms are from the mainland, while investments have also come in from the U.S., the UK, Singapore and Canada.
Speaking of the U.S. tariffs initiated by the Trump administration, InvestHK says the disruption is also an opportunity for Hong Kong to lure global investors.
Alpha Lau, Director-General of Investment Promotion, InvestHK said, "Hong Kong has always been a very stable economy right in the middle of Asia, giving them the opportunities to expand to Greater China and oversesas. In all these turmoil and uncertainties in the world, certainty is more important, you can actually see some funds have been rolling in from North America into Hong Kong."
Looking ahead, Lau says InvestHK will continue to promote investment in traditional markets such as Europe amd East Asia.
In the meantime, they will also forge economic ties with emerging markets through outreach to the Middle East, Africa and South America.
