Beijing held a memorial ceremony on Sunday marking the 88th anniversary of the July 7th Incident, also known as the Lugou Bridge Incident.
The ceremony was held at the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, attended by approximately 600 participants, including relatives of deceased veterans, family members of martyrs, and student representatives.
Having unudergone expansion since October last year, the museum will reopen tomorrow with a special exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance. The exhibition will feature over 3200 historical artifacts.
On July 1937, Japanese troops conducting military exercises near the Lugou Bridge outside Beijing used the disappearance of a soldier as pretext to demand entry to Wanping County. When denied, they launched an attack which is now called the Lugou Bridge Incident that marked the beginning of Japan's full-scale invasion of China and China's whole-nation resistance war against Japanese aggression.
