Multiple firefighters came under siege from rifle fire in the U.S. state of Idaho, while responding to a blaze on Sunday afternoon.
Local police have lifted a shelter-in-place order after a tactical response team found the body of a man with a firearm nearby.
Firefighters responded to a fire at Canfield Mountain just north of the town of Coeur d'Alene at 1:21 p.m. on Sunday.
They were ambushed and endured a barrage of gunfire by at least one suspect about half an hour later.
Two first responders were pronounced dead at the hospital and another was being treated for injuries.
The local sheriff said it appeared the suspect was hiding in the mountainous area and used a high-powered rifle during the attack.
He also noted he had instructed deputies to fire back.
Residents were asked to avoid the area around Canfield Mountain Trailhead and Nettleton Gulch Road.
