Police have arrested three people, including a university law student, for allegedly scamming 15 victims out of more than 10 million Hong Kong dollars.

The three, including two men and a woman,
pretended to be police officers and other government officials.

They would call the victims and lure them to hotel rooms, claiming they were involved in illegal activities on the mainland.

The three would then allegedly extort money from the victims.

Police say this type of crime is showing an increasing trend.

They also warn young people not to fall into traps working for illegal entities when they look for summer jobs.
