Hong Kong Disneyland today launched its 20th anniversary celebration. Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the theme park is essential to Hong Kong's reputation as a world-class travel hub.
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy ... more than 30 well-known Disney characters appeared in this parade for the opening-day celebration of Hong Kong Disneyland's 20th anniversary.
Featuring 11 floats, the parade lasted for about 30 minutes, consisting of more than 100 performances.
Visitors were drawn by the festivities, with many taking pictures and videos to capture the moment.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law were among the cheering spectators.
Thai tourist Narisa said: "(The parade) was fantastic. (The atmosphere) was great. My kids really enjoyed the parade. That's why we really wanted to come today because that's the first day that you guys make a celebration, right?"
American tourist Yesenia said: "This is our second time (to Hong Kong Disneyland.) We actually were supposed to be here last week, but when we found out about the celebration was happening, we changed our whole flight to be here for the celebration. We have to be at the most magical party."
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, Disney put up a series of new decorations, including banners featuring their iconic characters.
Disney is optimistic of luring a wealth of visitors to the park over the summer season.
Michael Moriarty, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, said: "We are just one piece of the puzzle in the overall Hong Kong. You just have to look around today and see the optimism on the people coming from around the world to tell you that it's gonna be a good summer for us and a good summer for Hong Kong."
Meanwhile, Paul Chan said Disney received 7.7 million visitors last year.
"It is a landmark destination -- essential to our reputation as a world-class travel hub," said Chan. "But in this fast-changing world, maintaining that status means that we must always stay ahead. Innovating and reinventing in order to meet the changing tastes and expectations of visitors."
Last year, the theme park announced their next development phase -- the expansion of the Marvel-themed section and a new Pixar entertainment experience. Disney said construction of the two projects is progressing well.
