Leaders of the 32-nation NATO have endorsed a final statement that includes a massive hike in defence and security-related spending with commitment to mutual defence.
U.S. President Donald Trump said during a bilateral meeting with Dutch prime minister that it was a "big success" that NATO allies are moving to embark on such a large military spending spree.
Under the plan, members of the alliance would need to invest 5 percent of GDP on its defence by 2035, up from 2 percent, fulfilling a long-standing demand from Trump.
This as he claimed the United States has been paying more than its fair share.
A declaration released after the annual summit said NATO member states had committed to the 5 percent figure.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron noted the decision to hike NATO countries' defense spending should "obviously lead to trade peace," denouncing Washington's looming threat to impose heavy tariffs on European goods.
He welcomed the ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel but warned the situation is still "volatile and fragile."
Macron will meet the head of IAEA later in Paris and said the next step should be resuming diplomatic and technical work on the nuclear issue with Iran, the U.S. and Europe.
