Preparations are underway for the upcoming wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former TV journalist Lauren Sanchez amid a series of protests. Dozens of private jets will land before a three-day jamboree.
The wedding set to be held in the coming days will draw celebrities including Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Mick Jagger and Ivanka Trump.
It is believed the couple will exchange vows in San Giorgio Maggiore basilica and hold the main reception in the historical complex of Arsenale.
Local housing advocates and university groups have staged protests under the banner "No Space for Bezos," calling for a blockade on canals where the wedding is expected to take place.
They were joined by global environmental lobby Greenpeace.
The protests against Bezos' wedding is the latest of many that flare up in Venice in recent years to rail against the damage caused by cruises and overtourism.
