A woman of non-Chinese descent went missing after following a person into a tenement building in Cheung Sha Wan.

The police are now searching for a man, also of non-Chinese descent.

Authorities say the missing woman and the man may have had money-related disputes.

Police have arrested the man's girlfriend on suspicion of aiding him in hiding.

The 49-year-old woman of non-Chinese descent last appeared in this tenement building on Castle Peak Road in Cheung Sha Wan.

The police received reports from the woman's family at around 8 p.m. last Saturday that they lost contact with her.

Authorities reviewed CCTV footage at a suspicious location on Tuesday.

The woman was seen following a man into the tenement building but not leaving the property.

Officers from the police Regional Crime Unit found traces of blood in a residential unit in the building.

They also seized several items from the crime scene including a rice cooker, bottles of bleach and a number of metal objects.

Authorities also questioned nearby shopowners and inspected back alleys of buildings in the area.

The police said they have already confirmed the identity of the man of non-Chinese descent, adding that he held recognizance papers.

They did not exclude the possibility of the victim and suspect having been embroiled in money-related disputes.

The police arrested the suspect's 25-year-old girlfriend on suspicion of aiding him in hiding.

Authorities are now treating the case as murder.

The police's Kowloon West Regional Headquarters said the suspect was seen carrying several bags suspiciously when he left the building, and discarded the items in many different locations.

Further investigation indicated the discarded items have already been sent to a nearby landfill, where officers will continue their search for evidence.
