Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra faces a possible no confidence vote when parliament reconvenes next week.

The Bhumjaithai Party has called for the vote and will need the support of only 30 other lawmakers to launch the motion.

The Bhumjaithai Party left the ruling coalition last Wednesday.

A no confidence vote would represent the first parliamentary test for the 38-year-old prime minister.

Paetongtarn's handling of an escalating border dispute with Cambodia is now threatening her authority to run Thailand.

She was forced to apologise for kowtowing to Cambodia's former leader Hun Sen during a recorded phone conversation.

Senators are petitioning for a corruption investigation against her.

Street protests are being arranged for this weekend to call on her to step down.
