U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire".

Trump's announcement came after Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites.

Iran's foreign minister said that as long as Israel stopped its attacks, Iran would halt its own.

The Israeli military instructed citizens that they were clear to leave protected areas signalling the immediate threat from Iran Iranian projectiles was over.

Earlier, at least one missile interception could be seen over the skies of Jerusalem around the same time as air raid sirens went off.

Israel said three people were killed in an Iranian missile strike in Israel's southern city of Beersheba.

Trump's announcement on Truth Social said the ceasefire wouldn't begin until about midnight Tuesday Eastern time. He said it would bring an "Official END" to the war.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
