Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the government will try to woo more foreign capital and help enterprises reach out to the world.

This after Xia Baolong, director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, urged the city to continue to explore new markets and uphold the openness of the business environment.

In a media interview, the finance chief said Hong Kong should capitalise on the unique advantages of its free port status.

He said Hong Kong can find new capital sources from the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

At the same time, he said Hong Kong can do business with different parts of the world by cooperating with mainland companies.

For example, he said battery manufacturer CATL, which listed on Hong Kong's stock market recently, set up factories in Hungary.

He believes many mainland private firms will follow this business model and hire Hong Kong professionals to help them go global.
