Donald Trump has hinted on social media that U.S. military strikes on nuclear sites could be the start of regime change in Iran.
Leading U.S. politicians defended the president's actions amid criticism at home and abroad.
Iran says its Supreme National Security Council will decide whether to close the Strait of Hormuz after the country's parliament approved the measure.
Iran has continued to fire missiles at targets inside Israel since the American airstrikes against three of its nuclear sites.
The Israeli Defence Forces have kept up attacking government targets including a prison in Iran.

President Trump called it a military success saying the bombers had "obliterated" Iran's nuclear sites and the strikes have inflicted monumental damage.
Trump later hinting this could bring about regime change if the current leaders of Iran cannot "make Iran great again."
Vice-President JD Vance hopes Iran will learn a lesson: "There are two pathways. There's a pathway where Iran continues to fund terrorism,
continues to try to build a nuclear program, attacks American troops. That's the bad pathway for Iran and it will be met with overwhelming force. There's another pathway on the table here. There's a pathway where Iran integrates itself into the international community, stops funding terrorism and stops trying to pursue a nuclear weapon. This is a reset. This is an opportunity for the Iranians to take the smart path.
We certainly hope that they will.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also hinted at possible regime change: "If what they want is a secret program buried in the mountain where no one can see it and inspectors can only come when they say they can come, if that's what they want, then they're going to have big problems
because this is a dangerous, violent, radical regime. Not the Iranian people. We have no problem. We didn't hit Iranian people.
Trump's top politicians on U.S. television to defend the strikes amid criticism from within their own Republican Party and protests in multiple cities across America, including in New York.
These protesters shared their fears: "I'm shocked and not shocked at the same time. I didn't think that it would go this far. There are no words. I'm just, today I'm very angry. Another said: "We don't want to be, you know, brought into another catastrophic regional war that's going to spend millions, if not billions, of American tax dollars, all while hundreds of Iranians are being bombed in their homes, while thousands have been injured, and we're here to say absolutely no to that.

A social media account associated with Iran's supreme leader posted an image of missile strikes on a darkened city with a giant skull bearing the Star of David on it.
The caption reads "The punishment continues."
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei adding the Zionist enemy has made "a grave mistake and is being punished."
Iran firing missiles at multiple targets in Israel following U.S. strikes and again on Monday causing damage to buildings.
Israel's defence systems were operating to intercept projectiles targeting north and central areas, and told people to head to shelters.
