The Chinese Embassy in Israel said as of Thursday night, nearly 300 Chinese nationals have been evacuated to safety via the land borders to Jordan and Egypt.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said more than 1,600 of around 3,000 to 4,000 Chinese nationals that resided in Iran have left the country.

The Hong Kong Immigration Department said as of 5 p.m., 18 of the 19 Hongkongers who requested assistance in the region have been safely evacuated.

Over 100 Chinese nationals crossed into Egypt via Israel's Taba border. Among them were two Hongkongers.

One of them told TVB News that she had been stranded in Jerusalem since her return flight was cancelled. After seeking help from the Hong Kong Immigration Department, she was evacuated in a group arranged by the Chinese embassy.

A local tour guide who assisted in the evacuation said only one land border crossing into Egypt remained open, and overwhelming demand meant it took up to six hours to reach safety.

Tour Guide in Agent Omar said: "At first, we had an expectation that they can come and fly on the same day. And then due to the big number of Chinese people coming across the border, they were late, so that's why we wait for more times than expected, and we changed the whole plan for going back to Hong Kong."
