A chef at a Buddhist monastery on Lantau Island was sentenced to 160 hours of community service after he wrapped the heads of two dogs with nylon bags before abandoning them in the wild.
The two dogs were found one month after they were abandoned.
The police subsequently arrested a chef who worked on the island's Po Lin Monastery.
65-year-old Ng Sing-yiu pleaded guilty to three counts of animal cruelty.
He said he decided to tie up the dogs as they would often come inside the kitchen and pose a hygiene problem.
