A Minnesota lawmaker and her husband were shot and killed in their home on Saturday by someone posing as a police officer.

A second lawmaker and his wife were wounded in what Governor Tim Walz described as "targeted political violence."

Bullet holes peppered the front door of the Brooklyn Park home of former state House Speaker Melissa Hortman. She and her spouse were killed.

At a police briefing, authorities said they were looking for 57-year-old Vance Boelter and he had not yet been caught.

Authorities were actively searching for a suspect in the hours following the shootings.

Hortman was the top House Democratic leader in the state legislature and a former House speaker.

She was first elected in 2004. She and her husband had two children.

The other lawmaker and his wife were shot multiple times in Champlin.

The wounded lawmaker was identified as state Senator John Hoffman, a Democrat, who was first elected in 2012.
