Development Bureau responds to media reports on impurities found in aerators

The Development Bureau released a statement tonight saying water samples referred to in media reports show impurities from the "aerator" of the faucet.
They say household faucets and shower heads are generally fitted with similar devices to filter water, so the presence of impurities there is normal.
It stressed that drinking water quality testing must be conducted in accordance with international standards, and the samples collected should not be from an "aerator."
The bureau added the city's fresh water has undergone strict treatment procedures but some materials might have peeled off from internal water pipes because of old age and water pressure.
Property owners should therefore undertake relevant maintenance work regularly.
