David Beckham has been knighted for his services to sport and charity by King Charles III in the Birthday Honours list.

Soon to be "Sir David Beckham," the 50-year-old former footballer represented England 115 times.

He played for several of Europe's top teams including Manchester United where he won the treble in 1999.

The ex-midfielder has a partnership with UNICEF and campaigns to eradicate malaria.

Elsewhere, Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman, who won for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour" and The Who's Roger Daltrey were also knighted.

Musicals performer Elaine Paige, novelist Pat Barker and former Conservative government minister Penny Mordaunt were given damehoods, the female equivalent.
