Hong Kong has been awarded the "Most promising Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year" by CrescentRating, the world's leading authority in halal tourism.

For the first time, Hong Kong ranked among the top three Muslim-friendly destinations in the category for countries or regions not among the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board said a number of hotels, attractions and venues in Hong Kong have won awards, which are a testament to the city's efforts to promote Muslim-friendly work.

Chief Executive John Lee also wrote on his social media page that he proposed to create a friendly environment for Muslim tourists in the Policy Address last year, and the progress was encouraging.

The number of restaurants that completed the Halal certification has nearly doubled from about 100 at the beginning of last year to about 190 today, and more than 60 hotels have been rated Muslim-friendly.

In April this year, the number of visitors from the GCC countries increased by 65 percent year-on-year.
