The Standby Signal No. 1 is in force and will remain in effect until at least noon on Saturday.
After nightfall, the squally showers and strong winds associated with Severe Tropical Storm Wutip continue to affect the coast of Guangdong.
At the Central Pier, many could be seen toting their umbrellas.
The Hong Kong Observatory expects that Wutip will skirt past the Beibu Gulf Saturday morning and remain at a distance of about 500 km or more from Hong Kong for most of the time.
The forecaster will assess whether it is necessary to issue the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal tomorrow afternoon.
