The No. 1 Stand-by Tropical Cyclone signal stays in place as Severe Tropical Storm Wutip remains a threat.

Wutip will move towards Beibu Wan to Leizhou Peninsula today, maintaining a distance of over 500 kilometres from Hong Kong. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force for most of the time today.

According to the present forecast track, Wutip will then turn northeastwards and enter inland of western Guangdong. It will edge slightly closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary over the weekend.

Winds are expected to gradually strengthen generally over the territory during the day tomorrow (14 June), and up to gale force on high ground later. There will be occasional heavy squally showers.

The Observatory will assess tomorrow morning the need for issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3.
