Chief Executive John Lee issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the passing of Charles Ho Tzu-kwok, a former Standing Committee Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Lee praised Ho as a successful businessman who made long-term contributions to Hong Kong's journalism industry and national affairs.
Former Chief Executive CY Leung, now Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC, revealed on social media that he dined with Ho just two or three weeks ago and noticed nothing abnormal. He said Ho's sudden passing came as a surprise.
Leung added while Ho had openly opposed him during the Chief Executive election campaign, there were no hard feelings between them. He described Ho as generous and sharp in both political and societal matters.
Former Chief Executive candidate Henry Tang, also a CPPCC Standing Committee member, praised Ho for having participated actively in national affairs and voicing support for the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and the SAR government's governance.
Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau said Ho openly spoke about his own battle with lung cancer caused by smoking and remained committed to tobacco control advocacy until the end. Lo thanked Ho for his efforts and wished him peace.
