Stand-by tropical cyclone signal No. 1 stays in force in Hong Kong while Tropical Storm Wutip edges closer to Hainan Island.
While there will be occasional strong winds over parts of Hong Kong today, the Standby Signal will remain in force for most of the day today, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
Wutip will make landfall over Hainan Island tomorrow. The squally heavy showers associated with Wutip will affect the Pearl River Delta region later. It is expected that winds may be generally strong over the territory on Saturday and at first of Sunday. The Observatory will assess tomorrow the need of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3.
There are swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
