Starting today, Hong Kong permanent residents can go through Macao's immigration clearance using iris-scanning checkpoint channels. As of 6 p.m., more than 1,200 residents had registered for iris biometrics.

To take advantage of the iris-scanning checkpoint channels, individuals must use a phone to scan a QR code. They then need to stare at the camera while maintaining a distance of 50 centimetres. After passing the iris recognition, users can pass through the gate. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds.

Hong Kong permanent residents aged 11 or above who have registered for automated passenger clearance in Macao can use the new service.
