Religious leaders call for Israelis to spare parts of Tyre

Christian leaders from the Lebanon city of Tyre are calling on international community and the country's officials to stop Israel from attacking the Christian district of the city.

Airstrikes killed eight and wounded dozens on Tuesday in parts of Tyre.

The religious leaders say "the Old Quarter is not merely a residential neighbourhood, but the human and historical heart of the city of Tyre."

Scores of Tyre residents are fleeing the city along the Mediterranean coast.

Instead of continuing to trade fire with Iran, Israel focuses its attack on the ancient Lebanese city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
