HK commemorates 60 years of Dongjiang water supply

The government held a celebration event in Tseung Kwan O for the 60th anniversary of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong.

The event took place at the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant. Attendees included Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn, Deputy Director-General of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office, Ye Shuqiu, as well as Director of Water Supplies Roger Wong.

On-site features included a thematic exhibition, booth games, performances, and more, enabling the public to gain an in-depth understanding of the history of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong and the importance of water conservation. In her speech, Linn stated that Dongjiang water currently accounts for 70% to 80% of Hong Kong’s water consumption and plays an important role in sustaining livelihoods. The government will continue publicity and education efforts to remind the public to appreciate the source of their drinking water.
