Applications for the third phase of Light Public Housing is now open.
This batch features four projects, including a site at Olympic Avenue in Kai Tak.
Residents are expected to move in starting from the second quarter.
On the first day of applications, residents flocked to the Housing Authority's Customer Service Centre in Lok Fu
to hand in their forms.
Many of them are living in subdivided units.
Ms. Cheung said "I have been living in a shoebox flat for a year. The current rent is over 4,000 dollars but here its only around 1,000 dollars".
This phase of Light Public Housing covers four locations, including Sheung On Street in Chai Wan,
Phase 2 of Olympic Avenue in Kai Tak, Yan Po Road and Tsing Fat Street in Tuen Mun.
Monthly rents range from 900 to 3,020 dollars.
Applicant Ms. Leung is hoping to get a flat in Kai Tak, because it is located in the urban area with good transport network.
Mr. Chan also chose Kai Tak as he hopes his children could go to the same school after relocating.
Eligibility is restricted to those who have been on the public rental housing waiting list for three years or more.
Priority will be given to those in inadequate housing or families.
