From September 2023 to mid-January this year, 23 civil servants triggered the mandatory retirement mechanism due to persistently poor work performance.
Since 2023, the government has simplified the mandatory retirement mechanism for civil servants with persistently poor work performance, reducing the number of appeals and shortening the observation period.
The Civil Service Bureau submitted documents to the Legislative Council indicating that as of mid-January, the mechanism had been activated for 23 individuals. Four were ordered to retire, two resigned after receiving notices, and four whose performance improved to an acceptable level, thus allowing for a suspension of the mechanism, though they remain under a three-year monitoring period.
The cases of another 13 individuals are still ongoing.
